Amy Schoenecker is assistant professor in the Department of Politics, Economics, and International Studies and Director of the Honors Program. She teaches classes on comparative politics with interests in political economy, development, urbanization, the informal economy, and the Global South. She has published articles on the informal economy and has particular interest in the nexus of the state, informality, and gender, ethnic, and racial identities. Professor Schoenecker has spent a significant amount of time in India and won a Fulbright Nehru Research Grant in 2014 to study the local politics of street vending in Mumbai.
In the classroom Professor Schoenecker is passionate about student engagement and success and seeks to help students better understand and participate in the world around them. She looks forward to supporting and collaborating with students on research projects.
When not on campus, Professor Schoenecker enjoys hiking, running, and rock climbing.
Before coming to the University of Hartford, she taught at Grinnell College, Lake Forest College, North Central College, Aurora University, and the University of Illinois, Chicago.
